Dr. Padgett grew up in northwest Ohio, and attended The Ohio State University for both his undergraduate studies and his veterinary degree (making him a true Buckeye). After graduation from veterinary school, he spent a year of intensive training at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following this, he pursued a surgical residency at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During the 3-year surgical residency, he also obtained his Master’s degree. After practicing in Massachusetts for 3 years, he then came back to Ohio in 2000 and established Veterinary Surgery Services of NE Ohio, now Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology, LLC, the surgical practice at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, and part of the Metropolitan Veterinary Referral Group.
While all small-animal board certified surgeons are trained in both orthopedic and general (soft-tissue) surgery, Dr. Padgett is able to concentrate primarily on soft tissue surgery (mostly within body cavities). Dr. Padgett has published and lectured on many topics such as liver surgery, pain management, endocrine surgery, thoracic and airway surgery and thyroid surgery. One of his special interests includes surgical oncology, or the surgical treatment of tumors. He enjoys this field as it is both challenging, and it allows him to work closely with other specialists for the best care available to his patients. He is an active member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Veterinary Cancer Society, and the Society for Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery. |

Dr. Daye grew up in Western Canada near Calgary, Alberta. His pre-veterinary education was completed at the University of Alberta. Dr. Daye received his veterinary degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Following graduation, he completed a year-long rotation as a small-animal medical and surgical intern at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. After a year in private emergency practice and six months in a cardiothoracic surgery research laboratory, he completed a three-year small animal surgical residency at Auburn University. Dr. Daye is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. In July 2003, he relocated from North Carolina to join Veterinary Surgery Services of Northeast Ohio (now Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology, LLC).
While trained in all areas of small-animal surgery, Dr. Daye focuses his day-to-day attention on orthopedic conditions – treating general surgical conditions and neurosurgical conditions only on an as-needed or emergency basis. This focus allows Dr. Daye to offer a comprehensive list of advanced orthopedic procedures, including simple and complex fracture repairs of the entire skeletal system, arthroscopic treatments for many joints, multiple advanced treatments for ruptured cranial cruciate ligaments, multiple elbow dysplasia surgeries, as well as pubic symphysiodesis, triple pelvic osteotomy and total hip replacement for treatment of canine hip dysplasia.
Dr. Daye has received extensive training in many cutting edge orthopedic surgical procedures and fosters aggressive pain management for his orthopedic patients. He is a longtime and currently active member of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. He is a reviewer of scientific studies in orthopedics for the prestigious veterinary medical journal Veterinary Surgery. |

Dr. Bowman grew up in Kansas and received her associate degree in Veterinary Technology from Maple Woods Community College in Gladstone, Mo. After working as a Registered Veterinary Technician, Dr. Bowman moved on to Kansas State University, where she earned a bachelor’s in Agriculture and her degree in veterinary medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Bowman participated in a one-year small-animal medical and surgical internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. She then entered a three-year surgical residency at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Following her residency, Dr. Bowman accepted a position as an Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She was in private referral practice in Charlotte, N.C., for four years when she and her husband, Dr. Daye, moved to Ohio and became partners with Dr. Padgett in Veterinary Surgery Services of Northeast Ohio (now Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology, LLC).
During her education, Dr. Bowman received extensive training in neurological, orthopedic and general (soft-tissue) surgery. She is certified to perform PennHIP evaluations. Her research includes wound healing, reconstructive surgery and congenital anomalies. Since becoming a member of Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology, Dr. Bowman has concentrated on soft-tissue surgery and taken advanced training to develop a minimally invasive surgery (thoracoscopy and laparoscopy) program at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. She is an active member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Veterinary Endoscopy Society and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. |

Dr. Axlund began his academic career as an undergraduate student at the University of Northern Colorado and Oxford Polytechnic in Oxford England. He then attended veterinary school in his home State of Iowa at Iowa State University, graduating with distinction in 1996. An internship at the University of Missouri followed in 1996-97, where he was honored to receive the Outstanding Intern award. Dr. Axlund moved to Auburn, Alabama next where he completed his residency at Auburn University in Neurology and his masters thesis work. Board certification, issued by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, specialty of Neurology, was achieved in 2000, and Dr. Axlund received his Masters of Science degree in 2003.
Dr. Axlund served as a faculty member at Auburn University from 2000-2007, where he became a Tenured Associate Professor of Neurology/Neurosurgery in 2004. He is a frequent contributor in the veterinary literature on subjects including surgical management of atlantoaxial subluxation, hydrocephalus, status epilepticus, and pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism (via hypophysectomy) among others. A selection of some of his publications can be seen below. He has presented material at the. American Veterinary Medical Association Annual Meeting, Western Veterinary Conference, Central Veterinary Conference, and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Annual Forum to name but a few. His research results have been presented at major conferences both nationally and internationally including the Veterinary Cancer Society and Society for Neuroscience annual meetings.
Dr. Axlund moved to the Akron, Ohio area in 2007 with his wife, Nancy, who is a veterinarian as well, his two children, and a house full of 3- and 4-legged loved ones that were adopted over the years. While not spending time at the practice, Dr. Axlund likes to hike in the scenic Cuyahoga River Valley with his family and spend time on a single track riding one of his mountain bikes. A love of nature dictates most of his spare time in general, and the rule at the Axlund house is “be outside whenever possible”! The Axlund’s feel strongly about community service as well, with the public school system, after school programs and the local Humane Societies receiving top attention.

Dr. Bibevski received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Chemistry from Baldwin Wallace College in 2000. Part of her college education and work experience included research training in the field of neuroscience and physiology. Prior to attending veterinary school, she studied basic science research in the field of cardiovascular physiology at Case Western Reserve University with an emphasis on heart failure under the guidance of Dr. Mark Dunlap, M.D. She continued her research throughout veterinary school, giving national conference presentations as well as receiving multiple awards in the field. In 2006, Dr. Bibevski received her veterinary degree from The Ohio State University. She completed a 1 year general internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in small animal medicine and surgery. She then completed a 1 year surgical internship with Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology before matriculating into their 3-year year surgical residency program. Her clinical interests include critical care medicine and minimally invasive techniques such as arthroscopy and laparoscopy. She spends her time outside of veterinary medicine with her husband Steve and their two horses and dogs at home. |

Dr. Gietzen is from the frigid state of North Dakota where she did her undergraduate studies in Microbiology at North Dakota State University. She then attended Iowa State University where she obtained her veterinary degree in 2005. After graduation, she continued her education at Iowa State University and enrolled in a master’s program concentrating on small animal surgery. During this time period, she also completed a one year internship in emergency medicine and critical care. In 2007, she packed up the U-Haul and moved to Ohio where she completed a one year surgical internship at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital with the Ohio Veterinary Surgery and Neurology. She is currently pursuing a 3 year neurology/neurosurgery residency program under the direction of Dr. Todd Axlund. |

Dr. Garnett grew up in Elyria, OH and graduated from The Ohio State University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in zoology. He then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and completed his clinical year at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2009. After veterinary school, he worked a short time at a private practice in North Ridgeville, OH before completing a one year rotating internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York City. Currently he is completing a three year residency program here with Ohio Surgery Veterinary and Neurology. Dr. Garnett’s wife, Natasha, also a veterinarian, is an emergency and critical care resident in New York. Together they have a golden retriever, Brooklyn, and a cat, Scarlett. As a family they enjoy traveling, visiting the beach and enjoying warm weather outdoor activities. |

Dr. Yates is from the sub-tropical, mostly below sea level state of Louisiana, where snow (or the threat of) closes roads, schools, grocery stores, etc. He grew up on a show pig farm in Pearl River, Louisiana, which has instilled not only a rigorous work ethic and compassion for all species, but also an incredibly appreciated dulled sense of smell. His undergraduate studies in Animal, Dairy, and Poultry Sciences were completed at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge; GEAUX TIGERS!!. Dr. Yates moved to the island of Grenada to attend St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he obtained his veterinary degree in 2007. As a part of this curriculum, in 2007, he spent a year at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, and it was there where he acquired a noble interest in neurology and neurosurgery. In 2008, he headed back home to Louisiana to complete a one year small animal rotating internship at Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center. Upon completion of his internship, Dr. Yates stayed on staff at LVRC as a full-time emergency clinician in the multiple specialty referral and critical care hospital. Concurrently in 2009, he obtained a position as a research veterinarian at Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species (ACRES) in New Orleans, performing laparoscopic reproductive procedures, such as oocyte retrieval/collection from super-ovulated domestic and exotic feline species.
Dr. Yates is married to Dr. Jill Yates, who is also a veterinarian that is residency trained in Internal Medicine. After over ten years together, and at some points living up to 3,000 miles apart to further their education/careers, the city girl meets country boy relationship is still thriving. The Yates’ family includes four four-legged kids: Nelson (11yo Lab), Nemo (5yo orange tabby), Nora (4yo torty), and Nugget (2yo Dachshund). He is currently pursuing a three year neurology/neurosurgery residency program under the direction of Dr. Todd Axlund. |
