Dr. Elizabeth Fazio Schaefer

Dr. Elizabeth Fazio Schaefer attended Cleveland State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science while playing volleyball for the Vikings. She then received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee followed by a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital.  She then completed a yearlong research fellowship in The Gilger Lab at North Carolina State University. Dr. Schaefer then began a three-year ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri. There, she received specialty training in the medical and surgical management of canine, feline, equine, and avian eye disease.  Her clinical interests include: corneal wound healing and surgery. She enjoys her career because it “uses both medicine and surgery to restore vision, improves the patient’s quality of life and enhance the bond between human and animal.”  Outside of work, Dr. Schaefer enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and dog. She loves hiking, playing sand volleyball, and cheering on Cleveland sports teams.
